According to Fagali, in 2017, corporate governance and compliance were discussed at length by many companies because of the increase in bribery and corruption issues. Almeida dos Santos, a partner of S2 Consultoria, voiced his concerns on how corporations should execute these laws and still be relevant in the market since they should abide by set legislation. Most companies, for example, comply with regulations to get the compliance certificates. This shows that companies only fulfill the requirements of the law but they don’t have a compliance culture. Santos suggested that companies should first build a lasting solution and change their approach towards compliance.
Fagali’s supports Santos’ idea of compliance but he says that this should not be the only primary focus for corporations. To completely weed out non-compliance, he suggests that there should be time to time audits conducted. In line with this, companies should make sure that policies and procedures are monitored more often. If a gap is found then there should be an update on the guidelines to restore integrity.
Shared services departments such as human resources, internal audit, legal and finance should work together in order to build trust for throughout the company. In addition, Bruno Fagali shared Santos’ insights for companies that embraced reviews in 2017. He said that companies should educate their staff on the morals of the corporate world to avoid being caught on the wrong side of the law. Fagali indicates that compliance reviews to succeed and therefore the management should cooperate with the reviews and provide necessary resources. Learn more: https://br.linkedin.com/in/bruno-fagali
